Wire Cutting

Wire cutting, or wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining), is a precision machining technique that uses a thin, electrically charged wire to cut through conductive materials by means of electrical discharge. Wire EDM is particularly effective for machining hard materials, such as tool steel and titanium, which are challenging to machine using traditional methods. It’s ideal for creating intricate shapes and sharp internal corners with tight tolerances, making it a valuable process in industries like aerospace, medical, and more.

A major advantage of wire EDM is its ability to cut complex geometries and produce smooth surface finishes, often with minimal or no additional finishing required. Wire EDM machines are typically computer-controlled, using CAM software to automate cutting paths and multi-axis movements, which enables customization for complex designs and enhances production efficiency. This capability allows wire EDM to produce parts with exceptional accuracy even after heat treatment, reducing the need for secondary operations and minimizing distortion.
